From June 15th to September 15th, the U.S. Army Special Operations Command will be conducting a massive RMT, a realistic military drill, in an area covering the American southwest states of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Colorado and the southern end of California. The exercises will be based in Big Springs, Texas and will involve 1200 special operations troops from the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army. Jade Helm is being labeled as routine training and, per Lt. Col Mark Lastoria, the area was chosen because its climate and terrain are similar to conditions overseas.
Communities in Texas are calling ad-hoc meetings to learn more about the upcoming so-called “federal invasion.” They were unaware that local property owners had agreed to allow the military to use their land. They are watching as helicopters and tanks move into their state. They are being told that this is not an effort to prepare and train for martial law. But it is understandably creating a measure of anxiety given the present climate of NSA spying, the Patriot Act and the general economic downturn.
Citizens in multiple states have voiced the following concerns: This multi-state operation is being conducted outside the confines of a military base and includes attempts to infiltrate populations, moving un-noticed among them. Further, local law enforcement officers are considered partners with the military in these exercises, potentially violating the Posse Comitatus law of 1878 which restricts the United States military from acting in law enforcement capacities.
US Representative Louie Gohnert of Texas, after viewing a Jade Helm military map dividing states into “hostile” and “friendly” territories, said “the tone of the exercises needs to be completely revamped so that the federal government is not intentionally practicing war against its own states.”
Jade Helm has given rise to a host of internet conspiracy theories, but it should not be excused as such. Jade Helm is actually happening. It threatens our freedoms by eroding states’ rights, breaking down the barriers between the military and the police, and conditioning the American public to accept a military presence among us. And, given predictions of an economic meltdown due to the devaluation of the dollar in connection with predictions of subsequent citizen unrest, Jade Helm may actually prove to be a domestic plan for the federal government to take over if and when the states fail.
No, Jade Helm is not at our Ventura County doorstep. But be aware of what is taking place. Make sure it doesn’t go any further.
