I want to thank my fellow Libertarians who elected me State Chair at our recent convention. It’s an honor and privilege to serve in this important position. A lot of new members were elected to the Executive Committee as well, so I expect there to be some new ideas and plans being brought forward in the coming year.
You should see a few changes to the state LP soon. We’re currently working on getting a new and improved web site up and running, one that’s more user friendly than the current site. We haven’t had a monthly newsletter in recent years, but I expect us to appoint an editor and have this important communication tool available within the next month or two.
Currently our state party office is in an executive suite arrangement that’s not very accessible or practical. We are looking for a storefront office that will better serve the needs of our members and party officials, one where our activists and volunteers can easily drop in and share ideas or see what we’re up to.
I’m happy to report that more Californians are registered to vote in the Libertarian Party than ever before, over 120,000 at last count. Most are not party members, and I intend to invite all of them to join us as dues-paying members. In fact, if your membership has expired, I invite you to renew it, or even become a monthly pledger.
Amazingly, the 2016 election season will be upon us in a few months. It’s my goal to have a lot more candidates on the ballot next year, so that voters can choose Libertarians instead of the status quo. We used to have scores of candidates for state legislature and Congress, but Proposition 14 in 2010 (Top Two) changed the dynamic and made being a candidate more difficult – especially the important part about appearing on the November ballot, which has all but disappeared. We’ve joined with other groups in an effort to repeal Top Two, but haven’t had any success as of yet.
If you’re interested in running for office or helping on campaigns, contact me. If you want to become more active in party events and causes, contact me. If you have any ideas you think will help the Libertarian Party promote the cause of personal and economic freedom, definitely contact me. I’ll pass your contributions along to Executive Committee members who are working in those areas. We look forward to hearing from you!
