A message from Carl DeMaio who is doing wonderful work to help us keep more of our own money:
The Gas Tax Repeal Initiative got off to a red-hot start by collecting nearly 500,000 signatures in just 10 weeks. But we still need roughly 200,000 more signatures and time is running out. I really need your help and it will only take 5 minutes.
From: Carl DeMaio, Chairman -Reform California – Gas Tax Repeal Initiative
I just got the tally back for the signature drive on the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative. At the moment, we have roughly 360k signatures in – a record pace for a statewide initiative!
From Aaron Starr:
It’s official! On Friday, December 29 we received word from the Ventura County Registrar of Voters that our four recall petitions to remove Oxnard Mayor Flynn and Councilmembers Ramirez, Madrigal and Perello from office all qualified for the ballot.
It’s a new year once again and time for our Annual Officer Elections Meeting. For those members who have participated in various events and activities throughout the year, we hope you will return to help set goals and make plans for the new year. For other members who may not have joined us before, we invite you to come see what the Libertarian Party has been doing in Ventura County and ways you may want to help. Non-members and Friends are also welcome to attend.
Here’s a message from Reform California: With virtually no notice to the public, Democratic politicians in the California State Legislature crammed through SB-1, a massive hike increasing gas taxes and vehicle fees which went into effect November 1. Fortunately, former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio and a statewide coalition of taxpayer advocates have unveiled a strategy for getting citizens involved in overturning these tax hikes!
CANCELLED DUE TO FIRES Add this event to your holiday calendar. Let’s end the year with a festive holiday social at Marie Callender’s in Ventura on Wednesday December 6th, starting at 6:30 PM and ending around 8:30 PM. Enjoy a gathering with fellow Libertarians where new and current members will be treated to a free slice of pie. The restaurant is located at 1295 So. Victoria Avenue. Exit the 101 at Victoria and turn north (don’t let the “south” in the street address confuse you). If you are coming from the south you will have to make a U-turn right after you see the restaurant on the left. As always, the public is invited and everyone will be eligible for a free raffle. Hope to see all our members there.
The LPVC will once again host a booth at the Thousand Oaks Rotary Club Street Fair and volunteers are needed to set up, take down, and manage the booth throughout the day. Please contact us if you would like to be part of this outreach project. Thousand Oaks is an area of high interest in libertarian values. Your help is needed to capture more registered Libertarians and hopefully more county/state members as well. Increasing membership is one of our primary goals. We’ll also be looking for possible candidates for political office.
Join us at the quarterly business meeting on Wednesday October 25 to catch up on LPVC activities and to hear from a proponent for “Repeal Top Two.” The word is that Top Two is losing favor in state legislative circles and it just might be weak enough to topple soon.
For those who want a deeper Libertarian experience consider attending an LP convention next year. There you will meet others like yourself who know that people must be master to the state and that our Constitution is the bedrock for protecting our liberties.
In line with federal requirements, the Ventura County Board of Education issued a Constitution Week Proclamation. A 2004 amendment mandates that all publicly funded educational institutions and all federal agencies provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day
