It felt like starting over as four-term outgoing State Chair Kevin Takenaga accepted recognition and thanks from several delegates at the end of the convention for his strong and dedicated service over the years. In a few minutes newly-elected Chair Ted Brown would be meeting with the similarly newly-elected members of the 2015/16 State Executive Committee to begin a fresh look at our future needs, plans and finances. Mr. Brown is a long-time Libertarian member from Los Angeles County. His past service includes experience as State Chair, Southern Vice-Chair, County Chair and At-Large Rep for both the state and national. Ted has also run several times as a candidate himself and he is known for recruiting many other Libertarians for public office. State Chair Brown is concerned that both our membership and finances have dwindled and wants to “bring our party back to life again.”
Other successful candidates for state officer positions were: Brian Thiemer as Northern Vice-Chair; Jonathan Jaech as Southern Vice Chair; Kevin Duewel as Secretary and Emily Tilford as Treasurer. Elected At-Large Representatives are: Boomer Shannon, Mark Hinkle, Ray Fostore, Mike Sertic, Jeff Hewitt, Eric Vaughnes, Jason Wu, Jarrett Tilford, Leon Weinstein and Jim Hoerricks. Alternates will be David Bowers and Gale Morgan.
As the convention this year was limited (for budgetary reasons) to one day, Platform and Bylaws modifications were unavoidably shuttled to next year’s agenda. There was some discussion on redesigning roles for At-Large Reps, but that too was tabled. More action was found at the on-going LPEX conference where speaker presentations, workshops and exhibits kept it interesting for those who attended.
