Jeff Hewitt for Governor

At the state convention from May 14-16, The Libertarian Party of California endorsed Jeff Hewitt for Governor. A Libertarian and current Riverside County Supervisor, Hewitt brings over 17 years of successful public office experience to his run for governor. Before he became a county supervisor he was the mayor of Calimesa, CA as well as a successful businessman. 

“With my gubernatorial campaign in full swing, we are pulling out all the stops because we know we have an excellent shot at winning this race given the current state of politics in California,” said Hewitt.

LPC Convention is Almost Here!

You are invited to attend the Libertarian Party of California 2021 Convention, and I hope to see you there.  We have lots of important business to get done and some really exciting speakers!

When: Friday, May 14 to Sunday, May 16, 2021

In addition to conducting Party business, including elections, the Platform report, and the Bylaws report, there will also be speakers and panels. Speakers include:

  • Wyoming State Representative Marshall Burt
  • LNC Chair Joe Bishop-Henchman

Electronic Voting - Bring a Device!!
We will be using the Porcupine app developed by our Interim Executive Director, T.J. Ferreira, for elections at the convention. Porcupine requires a web-enabled device (computer, tablet, or phone). While paper ballots will still be made available for those without access to a device, we encourage all voting State Central Committee members to bring such a device in order to streamline the process.

LP State Convention 2021

The California LP State Convention is coming next month, May 14-16, in Visalia. Everyone is welcome. Members are encouraged to come and should let the LPVC Chair know if they would like to attend as a voting delegate. All information is on the state site ca.lp.org. There are different levels of participation and pricing. (The basic level is free.) And be sure to make your reservation at the Marriott, the convention hotel. There will be speakers, vendor tables, breakout workshops, hospitality rooms and, of course, a business session. Hope to see you there!

Ventura City Council Position Open

Ventura City Council Position - Apply by Feb 8

From the City of Ventura website: The Ventura County Board of Supervisors appointed District 4 City Councilmember Erik Nasarenko as the new District Attorney for Ventura County on January 26, 2021. City Councilmember Nasarenko submitted his resignation effective that date. This resignation creates a vacancy on the City Council that triggers the appointment and/or special election process under Section 705(c) of the Charter. At the February 1, 2021 Special City Council Meeting, City Council approved an Appointment Process to fill the City Councilmember District 4 Vacancy. This is the timeline:

February 2, 2021 Recruitment Begins - Application Posted Online
February 8, 2021 5:30 p.m. Recruitment Closes - All Applications are submitted via email to [email protected]

Early Bird Deadline for Convention Feb 7

I wrote you at the beginning of this month letting you know that the early bird pricing for the 2021 Convention, to be held in Visalia over the weekend of May 14-16 was ending on today, but we just got confirmation of a few additional speakers so we are extending the early bird pricing by one week!  So you now have until midnight on Sunday, February 7th to get the best pricing!

We have now confirmed that our 2020 Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates, Jo Jorgensen and Spike Cohen will be speaking. We have also confirmed that Marshall Burt, Libertarian member of the Wyoming House of Representatives and Apollo Pazell, Libertarian Party Campaigns Director will be speaking.  There will also be a panel of California's newest elected Libertarians and we will be announcing additional speakers soon!
